Sending Putharekulu as a Gift Without Breaking a Single Sheet

Putharekulu are the most requested gift from the Godavari region, and the most fragile. A sheet thinner than paper does not forgive rough handling. Here is how to make sure the box you send arrives in one piece.
Order close to the date
Putharekulu taste best fresh. Order a few days before the occasion rather than weeks ahead, so the person receiving them gets the full papery snap. Our putharekulu are made in small batches for exactly this reason.
Choose the right size
Smaller boxes travel better than one large box because the pieces have less room to shift. If you are sending to several people, order several small boxes of Bhaktanjaneya Special Putharekulu instead of one big one.
Keep it cool and dry
Heat softens the ghee and humidity softens the rice sheets. Ask the person receiving the parcel to open it soon and keep the box in a cool, dry place, away from the stove and out of direct sun.
Pair it with something sturdier
Putharekulu shine on their own, but a gift feels fuller with a second item. A pack of Tapeswaram kaja or Kajju burfi travels well alongside it and gives the family something to share while they save the putharekulu for later.
If a few pieces crack
A cracked putharekulu tastes exactly the same as a whole one. Crush the broken pieces over a bowl of warm milk or vanilla ice cream. Some people say it is even better that way.
